This was my first star atlas that I received when was about 8 years old. Since then, I’ve gotten and used lots of other atlases, though this particular one is still one of my favorites. It’s compact, and gives a wonderful overview of large sections of sky. It also contains helpful observation notes for a variety of objects. This is an excellent chart for a beginning astronomer, but I also find if very handy as a more experienced amateur. It doesn’t replace my other more expensive deep sky charts, but it does supplement them. The deep sky charts are like looking at the sky through a keyhole, while this chart is much better for learning the constellations. It also shows the brighter deep sky objects, which are about all you may be looking for with a small telescope or in a semi-urban environment. It’s also dirt cheap and is an excellent value. I buy several copies at once, and give them out as gifts for people who are interested in astronomy.
