Kids love balls, and this one is unique. With the photos of the earth nicely printed on it and glowing cities when lights are off, it's a winner. The 12 year old and 5 year old grand niece took to it right away. The 12 year old plopped down on it and was using it for seating, till her mother threw her off. It withstood 130 pounds for 30 seconds and has kept on holding air. Glad she didn't pop it when she sat on it, as it was her younger sister's toy. Oh that would have been a bad Christmas morning if she had popped it.

I enjoyed this simple product with my grandchildren. I used it to physically demonstrate the relationships between the earth, moon and sun, how lunar phases are created, and how a day is related to the rotation of the earth, while a year is related to the orbit or the earth around the sun. Now it hangs in my granddaughter's bedroom as a complement to her lunar phases wall lamp, and glow in the dark star decals on the ceiling.

I tried to prime the earthball under the brightest light I have -- in the bathroom. I still couldn't get the lights to come on. I finally concentrated intense light from a flashlight on a selected area and the lights came on in that small spot! I suspect you can only generate all the lights in the Summertime. Set it outside first and just maybe you can get it to light up.
