Price Value Quality I did not actualy buy the machine but i had some great fun with a similar wimshurst in my Science class and it was great fun getting zapped by it and zapping my friends - also, in responce to one of the other reviews, the ozone is so minute that you would never have to wory about it in the slightest. BUY THIS!!!!!

Quality Value Price I have read that whenever air breaks down and becomes a conductor, as in the case of a spark, we also get the production of ozone. I also read that ozone in high concentrations may not be good for humans. Whenever I use my wimshurst I keep the windows open.

Quality Value Price It was not the best compared to my Vahn De Graff. The machine somtimes works, and somtimes doesn't. If it doesn't work, I just re-positioned the brushes and then it worked fine. I really enjoyed it. (-:

Quality Value Price As a Tech Ed teacher I have used the Wimshurst as an excellent visual / auditory demo for many years. As the spark jumps, its frequency and volume are a good indication of the amount of energy required. An insulator between the poles will require the spark to go around and demonstrates the properties of insulators. A coin on the insulator conducts the charge through it. The children learn the vocabulary and formulate thier own explanation very readily. It can be coupled with many other apparatus to show an entire history of electrical discovery.

Quality Value Price My almost 8-yr old son loves this thing to the point of obsession. He spends hours upon hours trying different variations. If you spin it fast enough in a dark room, you can actually see the glow of the charges as they build - on the wheels, in the brushes, a visible stream between the leads. He's also discovered that it can light up the night light. Have fun with it!

Quality Value Price Great demo, but belts will dry out and crack within a year. Replacements are not sold, so you must locate O-rings yourself.
