Computers today are insanely complex, but at their very core, they operate on the same principles as computers did fifty years ago. The CARDIAC is a great way learn the fundamentals of how computers actually perform computations.
Please understand that his is not a video game; it requires a curious mind and an ability to *think* and use your imagination. Don't expect to get any value from this product if you think you'll be a computer genius after 5 minutes of flipping through the pages. If you really put your mind to it and spend the time to understand the ideas presented, you can get a tremendous insight into how computers are designed and how they work.
Every bright child with an interest in computers should have one. If you can't afford it, you can make your own from plans on Wikipedia (cardiac computer), but this product is well worth the price.
There are a few very dated social references in the manual such as the assumption that girls can't be programmers. However, if you can get past that and just appreciate the value of this learning tool, you can learn the "big ideas" in computing for very little money.
These are in very limited supply because they were printed in the late 1960s. Don't wait to buy one!
Highly recommended!

This is a must have for any Bell Labs worker. It's incredibly easy to assemble (all you need are steady hands and a glue stick), and it holds together very well. The wonderful booklet that it comes with expllains the basics of computer programming if you are just learning. Unfortunately, I misplaced mine and have to buy another. Great Product!
