Experiment with Eco-Friendly, Electrochemical Energy
With hybrid cars on the road, battery electric vehicles, or BEVs, are now being developed by many major auto manufacturers as the next step in sustainable transportation. With this kit, you can experiment with a new type of environmentally friendly fuel cell to learn about electrochemical cells and BEVs. You'll build 20 different models and experiment with different concentrations of salt to see how long your battery can run.
The metal-air electrochemical cell battery is widely used in small scale devices and uses only magnesium plates, salt water, and the oxygen in the air to generate electricity. It is ideal for demonstrating battery technology because it does not use any harmful chemicals. Moreover, magnesium is considered an eco-friendly renewable fuel because it could be harvested cleanly from ocean water.
Includes 91 building pieces, six magnesium plates (each lasting as much as six times longer than a regular AA battery) and experiment manual.
Recommended for ages 10+.
WARNING! — This set contains chemicals and parts that may be harmful if misused. Read cautions on individual containers and in manual carefully. Not to be used by children except under adult supervision.
