Prehistoric Life Captured in Amber
Remember that Spielberg movie where scientists extract dinosaur DNA from an insect trapped in amber, and then clone modern day dinosaurs? THAT was fiction. THIS, however, is reality.
Edmund Scientifics commissioned a leading amber specialist and entomologist to go on expedition to the Dominican Republic with the distinct purpose of unearthing authentic amber fossil specimens. We were fortunate enough to secure a very limited number of hand-selected amber samples containing prehistoric insect inclusions that date back at least 15-20 million years. Each highly polished sample was collected and prepared from the famous La Toca and La Cumbre mines in the Santiago region of this Caribbean island nation, and each has been examined and authenticated by the resident geologists from Ward's Natural Science Labs. These are truly remarkable pieces.
Presented atop a mirrored LED-lighted base, actual prehistoric insects are clearly displayed to you beneath a tripod magnifier for intimate examination. Averaging 3/4" to 1" in size, each unique amber piece glows beautifully atop the base creating a dramatic conversation piece.
Could these insects contain the actual DNA of a larger prehistoric beast? Maybe, but that's not very likely. Will this unique fossil piece generate great conversation and stimulate curiosity? Absolutely yes!
