Shock Absorbing Sorbothane

Easily Cut to Size
Ideal For Use In Labs and Assembly Shops

Sorbothane is a proprietary, visco-elastic polymer. Visco-elastic means that a material exhibits properties of both liquids (viscous solutions) and solids (elastic materials).

Sorbothane is a thermoset, polyether-based, polyurethane material. Sorbothane combines shock absorption, good memory, vibration isolation and vibration damping characteristics. In addition, Sorbothane is a very effective acoustic damper and absorber.

While many materials exhibit one of these characteristics, Sorbothane combines all of them in a stable material with a long fatigue life.

  • Sorbothane has a low creep rate compared to other polymers (rubber, neoprene, silicone, etc.)
  • Sorbothane has a superior damping coefficient, over a very wide temperature range, compared to any other polymer.
  • Unlike fluid-based shock absorbers or foam products, Sorbothane absorbs shock efficiently for millions of cycles.
  • Sorbothane eliminates the need for metal springs to return the system to its equilibrium position after absorbing a shock.
Absorbs up to 94.7% of impact energy, then reforms to its original shape. Sold in a 12" x 12" x 1/8" sheet. For use by scientists, designers and experimenters

Shock Absorber
Reviewed By: JRoush (Greensboro, NC)
Purchased to create recoil absorber in a shotgun shooting vest. Was able to sew around the edge to cover with fabric and then insert into a fabric pocket. No problem using a home sewing machine on the product.

Audio application

Applied a cut out under my Finite Element Ceraballs which supports most of my equipments (CD player, pre-pro and balanced power conditioner). Immediately noticed smoother, grain-free presentation with a touch of warmth. Will try between speakers and stands next to replace blu-tack. Recommended highly.

Bought to cover a 'cheek piece' on a competition rifle. Noted much reduced recoil impact. Does the job splendidly.
